Saturday Night Takeaway leaves viewers in tears at a slice of normality as show returns with Olly Alexander
Fans of Saturday Night Takeaway were left emotional as the show returned, praising it for cheering them up amid the ongoing pandemic.
The return of the much-loved show, hosted by Ant and Dec, represented a small piece of normalcy for many amid the coronavirus pandemic, which was enough to move them to tears.
Despite the show having a slightly different feel to normal as the audience was beamed in virtually rather than being in the studio, Ant and Dec’s heartwarming segments and hilarious capers went down a treat with viewers at home.
They took to Twitter to share their joy at Saturday Night Takeaway’s return, writing: ‘Sat crying at Saturday night takeaway, what has my life come to’.
Others added: ‘Watching Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, it’s pretty heartwarming isn’t it? Lockdown has done mad things’ and ‘Lockdown has acc broken me, why do I keep crying at Ant & Dec Saturday Night Takeaway????? It’s literally supposed to be funny.’
Tears were the order of the day for many, as more tweeted: ‘Does anyone wanna tell me why i cant stop crying at Saturday Night Takeaway… I MISS LIFE’ and ‘Why does @antanddec Saturday Night Takeaway happiest minute always make me cry…..Happy tears. Such wonderful people’.
The first in the current series – which will run for the usual seven episodes – also saw Olly Alexander take on the role of Star Guest Announcer.
The Years & Years and It’s A Sin star, 30, brought an array of outfits for his star turn, and viewers couldn’t get enough of him.
They tweeted: ‘Watching Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway with @alexander_olly as the guest announcer what could be better. Saturday nights are great again.’
Others added: ‘Olly Alexander is looking COMPLETELY fabulous on Saturday Night Takeaway’ and ‘Lovely to see @alexander_olly on Saturday night takeaway after watching him in the fantastic it’s a sin for the past five weeks.’
Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway airs Saturdays from 7pm on ITV.
