The third series of Netflix’s Sex Education has finally arrived after over a year since the cliffhanger ending of season two.

It is likely many fans have already binged the eight-episode series, with Metro.co.uk giving it a four-star review and calling it ‘truly heart-warming’ and praising the performances of its cast and BAFTA-winning Aimee Lou Wood in particular.

All of which has left us wanting more escapades from Moordale High – but is a fourth series of the show on the cards?

Here’s what we know so far…

Warning: spoilers for season three follow.

Will there be a season 4 of Sex Education?

So far, Netflix has not confirmed a fourth season of the show – but that doesn’t mean there won’t be one.

The streaming platform often confirms whether a show of theirs will get another series a few weeks after it is released – and as Sex Education was only released on Friday, that still gives them plenty of time to announce the news of its future.

When asked about a potential fourth season, Asa Butterfield – who plays lead teen Otis – told Cosmopolitan that ‘We don’t know [whether there will be more]. It’s out of our hands at this point. I wish I could tell you more; I genuinely don’t know.’

The actor did express that he would like to see more of how his and Maeve’s relationship might develop in a potential fourth series after the pair finally kissed.

‘I would like to see them…look at the bigger picture,’ he said. ‘To explore themselves and to be more focused either on their relationship with themselves or their platonic relationships with their friends and family.’

Both Asa and co-star Ncuti Gatwa – who plays Otis’ best friend Eric – have also expressed that they would love to see their friendship develop more in the future.

‘Otis and Eric, they’re most themselves when they’re with each other,’ Butterfield said. ‘I wish there were more scenes with us.’

‘We ask for that every season,’ Gatwa added. ‘[Showrunner Laurie Nunn] is like, ‘What do you want?’ ‘More scenes with Otis.’

Will the main cast members return for season 4?

Given that the next series has yet to be confirmed it’s hard to say – but is fairly safe to assume that stars Butterfield and Gatwa would return for a fourth season along with Aimee Lou Wood, Gillian Anderson and the rest of the main cast members – but will Emma Mackay be back after Maeve made the decision to head to America?

Season three added a few newcomers to its ranks including Girls star Jemima Kirke as new Moordale headmistress Hope – but with her plans scuppered and the school being sold, could her time already be done on the show?

Watch this space for any new updates on the future of the much-loved comedy-drama.

Sex Education season three is available now on Netlfix.
