‘Lol Shade: Former Lakers Forward Clarifies His Bold Statement on the Championship Winning Roster

The Lakers came out as victors in one of the most uncertain NBA seasons when they won the championship in 2020. Fortunately for them, they had their star duo completely healthy throughout the season and that worked to their advantage. But this does not mean the remaining roster was merely a group of bystanders.

On the same lines, a quote from former Laker Markieff Morris got him some poor rapport amongst LA fans. Perhaps a comment from the forward saw misinterpretation and led to a social media trial.

Markieff Morris came out in his defense 

Earlier, 32-YO Markieff had said in an interview, “I feel like we have nobody on the team like just, ‘give me the ball, and then everybody just watch and let them make the play.’ It’s a collective.” Now, many fans saw this as Keef criticizing the narrative that LeBron James and Anthony Davis were the only factors who drove the run.

With the criticism catching up, Smooth Snoop Dogg decided to clarify what he actually meant by the quote. Here it is –

Markieff left the Lake Show after hitting his free agency and shaking hands with rivals in the Miami Heat. He now has a one-year contract where he’ll play alongside Jimmy Butler, Kyle Lowry, and Bam Adebayo. But certainly, he will never forget the Orlando Bubble and that championship run.

How did Keef help the Lakers during his time in LA?

Well, after joining the Lakers Nation mid-season in early 2020, the man played just 14 games and then started 2/21 nights in the 2020 playoffs. He then started almost half of the total games he played in 2020-21 and averaged 6.7 points.

Mostly, the 6’10” player utilized his muscular diaphragm to stay a force around the rim. His defensive rebounding stood commendable while his turnover rate pretty low. The drop steps further helped his case as he also played a physical game against the defensive-heavy rivals. 

All-in-all, he did help the Lake Show during that title run, even if marginally. And sure it was a team win, but the way the Lakers stumbled during the 2020-21 season with their star duo injured proved how they’re very much the centerpieces.
