Carragher praises Everton boss Ancelotti for getting ‘Merseyside derby right emotionally’ and calls him Man of the Match
JAMIE CARRAGHER has praised Carlo Ancelotti for ‘getting the Merseyside derby right emotionally – even calling the Everton boss his Man of the Match.
The Toffees stunned Liverpool to win their first Merseyside derby game at Anfield since 1999 with a 2-0 victory.

And Carragher has piled praise on Ancelotti for managing to put emotions aside, pick a brave team and head across Stanley Park with all three points.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “I watched the game again and Everton’s Man of the Match was the manager.
“It’s been 22 years since they won there. Notoriously Everton’s record at Anfield is horrendous.
“To win at Anfield for Everton is huge and they celebrated like mad and deservedly so.
“Everton had only won six games there since 1960.”
Carragher continued by saying Ancelotti helped inspire Everton to a calm, but decisive win – not allowing emotions to take over.
The Liverpool legend added: “Everton never get the derby right emotionally.
“They’re either too up for it and they get players sent off. Or they go into games terrified.

“He took the emotion out of the game with the team he picked.
“Evertonians, when that team came in, their heart sank… no Calvert-Lewin and no Allan.
“Allan hasn’t played for two months and Calvert-Lewin is coming back from injury.
“It’s the right decision, but [it was brave] because emotionally the derby is the biggest game to win.
“Roberto Martinez told me a story one time where he almost felt pressured to playing Gareth Barry when he wasn’t 100 per cent fit.
“He got injured, they lost the game and he missed the FA Cup semi-final. He always looks back at that with regret.”
