PIP Fund Favorite Max Homa Voices Displeasure Against the $40M Bonus Pool

Earlier this year, the PGA Tour announced a new program called the Player Impact Program. This is a pool of players eligible for a financial fund based on their influence off the course. Max Homa, a pretty fan-friendly player, recently discussed how he’s not the biggest fan of this project.

The PGA tour will distribute a $40 million fund among 10 golfers based on their ‘impact score’, based on their popularity. Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a press conference, “For us, it’s all about getting our players to engage in our game, help grow our Tour, and help grow their own respective brands.”

Moreover, he said, “We don’t have any intention on publicizing.” However, this is exactly what Homa had a problem with.

‘Just don’t get it’- Max Homa on the PIP fund

Max Homa appeared on the podcast Golf Subpar, hosted by Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. The latter asked him, “Where do we stand on these PIP standings? I got a huge issue with this damn thing. There’s no rules, there’s no standings, no one knows. You’re the guy that everyone thinks of Golf Twitter; you’re the first name that comes to mind.”

Further, he said, “What happens at the end of the year if they’re like, ‘OK, it’s all done, we paid it out, and you don’t have any direct deposit?” Homa replies,”I would promise you I’m not getting a direct deposit from this thing.”

Homa clarified his issues, “I am frustrated — I don’t know, but I know. I am frustrated with the fact that there’s no, like, list. This is such a good idea if there’s like a presentation at least of who won. So I don’t get it.”

Homa further clarified how it was not meant for people like him. He said, “It should be for the guys who are bringing in money for us. Like we’re making it on the side. People just don’t get it. Like, I’m making more money in these golf tournaments because of the 10 guys who will get this PIP money.”
