’I Totally Disagree”: When Rafael Nadal Criticised Roger Federer for His Stance on Tennis Issue

In men’s tennis, very few rivalries have been as great as the one shared by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It’s been close to two decades since the tennis giants first faced each other in 2004. The two athletes have played some of the most memorable matches in recent times.

Recently, an old incident surfaced between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. It was a topic on which the Spaniard disagreed with the Swiss maestro concerning the scheduling of events. Rafa was annoyed at the number of tournaments players had to play and found it too taxing.

On the other hand, the Swiss ace was not making a fuss about the scheduling, which made Nadal a bit annoyed. The Spaniard spoke on this topic back then and stated, “No, I totally disagree. For him, it’s good to say nothing. Everything positive. ‘It’s all well and good for me, I look like a gentleman,’ and the rest can burn themselves. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinions.”

Rafael Nadal had the support of the majority over Roger Federer

At that point in time, Nadal was vocal in expressing his disapproval of the scheduling. He felt there were some things that could be changed. A majority of players voiced a similar opinion to that of the Spaniard, which made the 13-time French Open champion feel more confident in his stance.

The man from Mallorca further added, “It doesn’t mean there are some things about the tour that could change. The tour is fine, but there are some things that are bad. That’s all we’re saying. And the vast majority of players have this same opinion. He’s got a different opinion … if the vast majority have one opinion, and a small minority think differently, maybe it’s them who are wrong.”

Coming to tennis, both Federer and Nadal decided to end their seasons early. They both were victims of injuries and needed treatment to get back in shape. We hope to see them back to their best on the Tour again in the 2022 season.
