Should Mikey Garcia Retire After Losing to Sandor Martin?
Mikey Garcia failed to maximize on his boxing return tonight against Sandor Martin. The four-division champ was a favorite to win this 10-round fight for all the reasons in this world. But, he couldn’t dictate the pace of the fight, and as a result, the underdog, Martin, pulled off an upset.
Garcia appeared under the big lights after a whopping 20-month layoff. Ring rust was certainly visible in his performance, as he was struggling to land his best shots throughout. There was hardly any moment when the Californian boxer caught his Spanish contemporary in this fight.

Mikey Garcia began the contest, staying on the back foot. He employed some slick head movements and overall defense in the first few rounds. But simultaneously, he made adjustments to go toe to toe with Martin.
The southpaw boxer knew Garcia would go for the big hits from the first bell itself. As a result, he kept his straight lefts ready to counterattack the boxing elite. Along with his prime punch, Martin even came up with some hooks and he attacked Garcia’s chest on a few occasions.

In the later rounds, Garcia turned desperate to put Martin on the canvas. But this went in the southpaw boxer’s favor as he triggered Garcia to hit him with wild shots. Eventually, Martin’s counterattacks worked well, and he did enough to defend the four-division champ’s punches.
By the end of round 10, it was clear that Martin had the edge over Garcia in this fight. Consequently, the judges scored 97-93, 97-93, and 95-95 in the underdog’s favor.
Is it time for Mikey Garcia to sign off from boxing?
Garcia, in this fight, failed in every department and his rich experience didn’t help him get over the line.
The 33-year-old looked extremely slow and off throughout this fight. Also, Sandor Martin was not the best contender he faced at this weight class. Yet, he succumbed to a devastating loss.
Citing that, it seems Mikey Garcia’s time is finally up in the sport of boxing. He has already proved his worth in the past, and there’s not much left for him to show.
