Stefanos Tsitsipas Reveals His Fondness for Roger Federer, Coldplay and NBA Star Giannis Antetokounmpo

Greek World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the most promising new-generation talents on the ATP Tour. Undoubtedly, his one-handed backhand and his philosophical personality have only brought more charm to men’s tennis. However, there are some things about him that even ardent tennis fans aren’t aware of, especially, his fondness for the legend Roger Federer.

Since Tsitsipas first arrived on the Tour, fans started drawing parallels between him and Federer. In fact, the two ATP stars even met twice on the court, with the scores drawn at 2-2.

Recently, when Tsitsipas was asked to pick a game from the yesteryears that he’d like to attend as a member of the audience, he selected an iconic Federer match.

Which Roger Federer match did Stefanos Tsitsipas choose?

As every tennis professional dreams about playing at Wimbledon, fans dream to see Roger Federer on the grass turf. Naturally, 23-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas also aspires for the same. However, his choice is not ordinary.

To answer the question, Tsitsipas chose Roger Federer and Pete Sampras’s Wimbledon 2001 fourth-round match. Indeed, it was a pivotal battle, where the changing of the guard from old to new champion had begun.

In this match, Federer defeated Sampras 7-6(7), 5-7, 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-5. Notably, it was also the first and only time the two ultimate legends met each other on a tennis court.

Inarguably, most of the tennis fans would agree with Tsitsipas’ choice of match. But besides that, the Greek God also revealed his favorite band growing up and his favorite athlete outside of tennis.

Furthermore, Tsitsipas named fellow Greek and NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo as his favorite player outside tennis. Besides, the duo are also good friends and a support to each other.

Tennis-wise, Stefanos recently lost to Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, who reached the finals in Indian Wells. However, it did not affect his place in the ATP Finals.

All in all, Tsitsipas will be looking forward to doing well in Paris and then in Turin for the year-end championships. Let’s see if he can repeat the 2019 victory.
