Kimberley Walsh has revealed a Girls Aloud reunion isn’t on the cards right now following the death of Sarah Harding

Harding died on September 5 at the age of 39 following a battle with breast cancer

Fans had hoped the Sound of the Underground hitmakers would get back together to celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2022, but Harding’s death has meant that’s unlikely to happen at this stage.

Addressing the ongoing reunion speculation, Kimberley told The Sun: ‘It’s not really something we’re even thinking about obviously, with the situation as it is. No one is even in that headspace right now.’

Girls Aloud were formed on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and enjoyed a successful run over 10 years with five number one singles. Following their initial split in 2009, they reunited in 2012 for a greatest hits tour and album but went on another hiatus after.

While they won’t be on stage together any time soon, the group are still in contact with each other and Kimberley revealed Nadine Coyle now lives ‘really close to [her]’.

‘It’s nice that I’ve seen her a lot more over the past couple of years,’ Kimberley told the publication.

She’ll also reunite with Cheryl and Nicola Roberts when she hosts her 40th birthday next month.

The singer said of her milestone birthday: ‘You’ve just got to cherish every moment. I don’t know what my forties will bring but going into a new decade is quite a big thing.’

Kimberley recently opened up about how she was coping with her grief after Harding’s death.

Speaking on Morning Live last month, she said: ‘It’s been a really, really tough few weeks and, you know, it’s still tough but I needed to just take that bit of time.

‘It’s nice to be out though. And I’m really happy to be here and it’s the best distraction, so, yeah, I’m looking forward to it.’

Harding had revealed her cancer diagnosis in August 2020 and explained that the disease had advanced to other areas of her body.

Her mother announced her death in an Instagram post, explaining that her daughter had ‘slipped away peacefully’.
