Jose Mourinho involved in fuming tunnel row after Roma denied goal in controversial defeat to Juventus

A livid Jose Mourinho was involved in a spat with Juventus players and staff after his Roma side lost 1-0 in Turin on Sunday night.

The 58-year-old later lashed out and challenged his opponents to say ‘in public’ the words that were directed towards him at the Allianz Stadium.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was left in disbelief when Roma had a Tammy Abraham goal ruled out and were instead awarded a penalty by referee Daniele Orsato.

To make matters worse Jordan Veretout stepped up and missed the spot-kick.

It led to a post-match clash in the tunnel to which Mourinho later fumed: “All the words we heard from Juventus in the tunnel and the locker room, I hope they say it in public too.

“They know how much they struggled against us. I won here many years ago without playing so well, today we lost when playing very well.”

England striker Abraham had the ball in the back of the net on the stroke of half time but ref Orsato instead pointed to the spot for a foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan by Wojciech Szczesny.

And the Juve faithful directed taunts and boos at Mourinho throughout the game as an early Moise Kean goal remained the difference between the sides.

But he replied in typical Mourinho style – holding up three fingers to the crowd to represent the treble he won with Inter in 2009-10.

After the game he also said: “Obviously, Juventus fans are not in love with me.”

It’s not the first time Mourinho and Juve fans have gone at each other.

Back in 2018 Mourinho’s Manchester United team scored two goals in the last four minutes of a Champions League clash in Turin to win 2-1.

He famously celebrated the dramatic win by cupping his hand to his ear and taunting the crowd.

He even had to be escorted from the pitch after squaring up to defender Leonardo Bonucci.

And it seems the crowd in Turin have not forgotten their animosity towards Mourinho as he made his return.

Sunday’s loss takes Juve within a point of fourth-placed Roma in Serie A after three losses in five league games for Mourinho’s side.

The club are already NINE points off league leaders Napoli after just eight games.
