Piers Morgan has lavished Greta Thunberg with praise, describing her as ‘a rock star’ and noting both her ‘balls’ and ‘charisma’, despite his previous negative comments on the environmental activist.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, the broadcaster shared footage of the 18-year-old at Climate Live 2021, where Greta took part in a little Rick Astley karaoke, as you do.

On stage at Sweden’s Climate Live 2021 in Stockholm, it appeared Greta was about to begin one of her impassioned speeches on the climate before these familiar words popped out of her mouth: ‘We are no strangers to love.’

Joined by a fellow green activist after her prompt of Never Gonna Give You Up’s opening lyrics, the pair then started an epic Rickroll, complete with bopping dance moves and full-throated singing along, much to the crowd’s delight.

Rick himself was thrilled, sharing the clip and calling it ‘fantastic’ and thanking them ‘so much’ in Swedish for their performance.

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers then retweeted Rick’s post writing: ‘Say what you like about Ms Thunberg but she’s a pint-sized rock star with more balls & charisma than most politicians put together.’

It would appear 56-year-old Piers has certainly changed his tune regarding Greta, as he previously branded the teenager ‘melodramatic’ in her stance towards climate change as well as accusing her of ‘abusing adults’ when she was tipped for Nobel Peace Prize success.

He has also mocked Greta live on GMB, crying out ‘How dare you? You stole my airtime’ in a ruthless impersonation of the activist when he and co-host Susanna Reid were discussing Extinction Rebellion activists spotted ordering food at McDonald’s.

Piers has admitted to previous admiration of Greta too, noting her ‘admirable passion’, despite her ‘very hectoring and annoying’ rhetoric when he told his social media followers that he didn’t ‘hate’ the teen.

He also congratulated her on becoming Time magazine’s youngest ever person of the year in December 2019, when she graced the cover of the publication’s end of year double issue.

He added: ‘Whatever your view of her, and mine is decidedly mixed, she’s made a stunning impact on the climate change debate.’

This didn’t stop him trolling her a few short weeks’ later with his daughter though, as the pair riffed off her famous UN climate summit speech, which accused leaders of ‘stealing childhoods’.

This latest post is Piers’ most positive comment yet on Greta – so is the media personality finally ‘warming’ to the climate campaigner, and all it took was a Rickroll?
