The first peek at Irvine Welsh’s TV series Crime has been revealed.
The upcoming BritBox show, which is set to launch next month on November 18, is the Trainspotting author’s first move into the world of TV and is an adaptation of his own 2008 book of the same name.
In the trailer, we get to meet Dougray Scott as Detective Inspector Ray Lennox, who is fighting with his own inner demons and working on serious crime investigations.
At the start of the clip, he says: ‘They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions, not in my mind…’
In a press release, BritBox teased: ‘Crime is the story of Ray Lennox in a city on the edge of the abyss.
‘Lennox is a man whose clear sight is not always a blessing. A girl goes missing. A town is in fear. A police department fights with itself.
‘A hero is lost; tortured by his own demons and all the while, watching, waiting, a brutal killer is poised to strike.’
The trailer alone promises plenty of drama, and the cast is yet another reason to get excited about the show.
Warrior’s Joanna Vanderham stars as DS Amanda Drummond, while White Lines actress Angela Griffin will play Trudi Lowe alongside The Dig’s Ken Stott as Chief Superintendent Bob Toal and Guilt’s Jamie Sives as Detective Inspector Dougie Gillman.
The show is set is Edinburgh, and Broadchurch director James Strong is at the helm alongside David Blair.
Irvine himself has adapted his own novel for the small screen alongside his long-standing screenwriting partner Dean Cavanagh.

Meanwhile, Robert Carlyle – who starred alongside Ewan McGregor and Ewan Bremner in 1996 cult classic Trainspotting – has revealed there are plans for a TV adaptation of the book’s sequel The Blade Artist.
‘Irvine and myself have been chatting quite a lot recently with a couple of excellent producers in London about [continuing the Trainspotting story],’ he recently told NME.
‘As you know there was another book called The Blade Artist which is just entirely about Begbie and his mad story. It’s still in its early moments but it’s looking pretty good that this will happen eventually.’
Irvine Welsh’s Crime premieres Thursday 18th November on BritBox.
