“I Would Really Love to Break His Face”- Jorge Masvidal Ready to Fight Colby Covington if It’s for the Title

Jorge Masvidal is preparing to take on #3 ranked welterweight Leon Edwards at UFC 269.

Both fighters don’t like each other and will look to put an end to the rivalry which started in 2019. Masvidal and Edwards, who were fighting on the same card at UFC Fight Night 147, got into a backstage altercation. Masvidal was giving an interview after the event when Edwards made a comment towards him. The ‘BMF’ champ got in his face after that and landed three strikes.

Ever since then, everyone’s been excited about the potential matchup. The fight is now booked and they’ll dish it out on December 11, 2021. Both fighters are looking for a shot at the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, and both believe a win will massively boost their chances. ‘Rocky‘ in an interview said that before signing the contract, he talked about getting a title shot.

‘Gamebred‘ also asked for a fight, which would increase his chances of getting a title shot again. Leon’s name was brought forward, and that is how the fight is taking place. The #6 ranked welterweight in a recent interview talked about a potential title fight with a long-time friend and now rival Colby Covington.

If Masvidal beats Edwards, and Covington can defeat Kamaru Usman, UFC could be tempted into making Masvidal vs. Covington. In the interview, he said, “That could happen too. That guy’s even more of a coward than Leon. So, I would really love to break his face, especially for a title. There are a lot of things that can happen.”

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington – The friendship and the beef

Masvidal and Covington, at one point in their lives, were great friends, training partners, and even roommates. They trained together at the American Top Team (ATT) gym. But now, they both can’t even look at each other and take shots at each other all the time.

The feud started after Covington won the interim welterweight title against Rafael dos Anjos. According to Masvidal, he didn’t pay one of the coaches. He said, “He ripped off my coach, that was his coach. We were with him until his title fight. After he won the title, he owed him a certain amount of money, didn’t pay him. I said if you don’t pay him I’m going to f—k you up. My coach got in between it, it doesn’t have to be like this, let it slide. Since the thing, I ain’t talked to the dude.”

Colby, however, believes it was jealousy on Masvidal’s part that ended the friendship. He in an interview, said, “When he got beat up by Demian Maia and then I had to come up and clean up the scraps and completely decimate Demian Maia in his hometown of Sao Paulo, that’s when the relationship ended. Jorge got jealous. He got bitter. He wanted something that he couldn’t have, which was beating Demian Maia and being in a position to fight for the title.”

Both fighters hate each other, and if a fight between the two happens, there sure will be fireworks.
