Dillian Whyte vs Otto Wallin Gets Canceled for October 30, Here’s Why

The much-anticipated heavyweight scrap between Dillian Whyte and Otto Wallin for the WBC Interim title is off for October 30. Whyte has reportedly contracted a shoulder injury, and will no longer be able to compete on the scheduled date. The entire derailment can be extremely hectic for the heavyweight division, which is at a very sensitive stage right now.

Following Anthony Joshua’s loss to Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury’s win over Deontay Wilder, Whyte was just one win away from earning a shot at the WBC strap. However, the current situation may infuse some major changes in the entire scenario.

Per reports, ‘The Body Snatcher’ was in Portugal for his ongoing camp and was optimistic about defeating Wallin at any cost. Unfortunately, it has to be put on hold.

WBC’s actual message was that Fury shall agree to face WBO, WBA, IBF, champion Usyk within 30 days. Or else the WBC Interim champion, Whyte, would get the shot. So, Dillian Whyte still appears to be in a safe spot. But needs to finalize a concrete return soon.

WBC’s exact ruling was that if Tyson Fury can’t agree a fight with Oleksandr Usyk within 30 days, then he must defend vs ‘interim’ champion – Dillian Whyte still holds that belt and so, despite the Otto Wallin fight reportedly being off, looks set to still get his mandatory shot.

Whyte has been waiting for his shot at the belt for several years. Despite being a top-tier name, he remained far from the title picture for a long time. Only recently, he entered the race with a sensational win against Alexander Povetkin in the rematch, after losing his Interim title via TKO in the first fight.

Dillian Whyte – The Underdog Heavyweight Star

Whyte, 28-2, has won 19 of his fights via KO and is a treacherous puncher. The only losses of his career have come against Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin, one of which he avenged against Povetkin in an immediate re-match. Post-fight, Whyte desired to go against Deontay Wilder, and also belittled Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Well, he needs to fix his own stance at this point. His exit from October 30 and can bring some new heavyweight contenders in the mix. While the division holds several A-listers on board, Whyte needs to remain active.
