Tinie Tempah is set to front Extraordinary Extensions on Channel 4 and now the rapper-turned-property expert has opened up on how he ended up placing his interests elsewhere.

The four-part series begins tonight on the broadcaster, which sees award-winning rapper Tinie (real name Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu) guide some budding home renovators through some huge changes at their homes.

He has an extensive property portfolio himself and will oversee Brits take on some wild extension projects in the development programme.

What is Extraordinary Extensions about?

In true Grand Designs-style, those watching will get to see all the design drama, scheduling crises, budget issues and tested relationships as those featured on the show look to add to their homes.

But these are far from your average extension builds, with participants across the four episodes taking on builds costing between £500k to over a cool million pounds, in a bid to make all their property dreams come true.

Host Tinie will give out some of his own insight from his previous builds and give out some much-needed guidance to those taking part in order to help everything run more smoothly.

Of course, in true property show-style, it won’t all go so swimmingly for all those taking part.

Luckily, they’ll be helped along the way by the musician who shares his personal renovation experiences and offers practical and design guidance on their way to building the extensions of their dreams.

Tonight’s opener focuses on Alan and Linda who are hoping to build a ski slope extension attached to a 17th-century farmhouse in Herefordshire.

It will also feature couple Amy and Simon as they form a million-pound glass structure by the sea in Hampshire.

Tinie Tempah move to property guru timeline explained

The Pass Out rapper recently told The Independent the pandemic played a big role in him becoming linked to the show after a few years away from his music career.

Tinie shared: ‘At the start of the pandemic, the music industry got hit really, really hard. Obviously, there were no gigs. I was in the studio at home, scratching my head.

‘I got this phone call, “We’re doing this property show, and we would love you to do it.” At first, I was like, “I don’t know…” But I’m at the age now where I want to communicate with other sides of myself.

He went on to explain the further attraction of taking on the new role, adding: ‘I’ve been making music since I was 16-years-old. I’ve achieved a lot. But I feel like this is a new challenge.

‘When you make records, you’re very much at the mercy of people every single time. When I’m buying a property or I’m flipping it and trying to sell it, I’m at nobody’s mercy.’

He previously spoke to Metro.co.uk after becoming a father for the first time about how it gave his life a whole new perspective on life.

He said: ‘It’s just really the best thing in the world and gives you a whole new outlook and perspective on life and makes me very appreciative for where I am in my life.’

At the time, he explained how keen he was to ensure his child was given a less challenging life than he was as a kid.

‘It makes me reflect back on the upbringing I’ve had and even though my parents were absolutely the best, we just being from South London and Nigerian heritage, I grew up in a very challenged background,’ he added.

‘And it just makes me want to create a better environment for my child.’

Extraordinary Extensions begins on Wednesday, 20 October at 9PM on Channel 4.
