“I’m Not the Kind of Person Who Makes a Show” – Max Verstappen Airs Views on Netflix’s Drive to Survive

Formula 1: Drive to Survive, the Netflix documentary series, has undeniably garnered quite a lot of fan-following, especially from around the United States, which more often had opted for NASCAR and Indy Series. However, Red Bull F1 driver and 2021 championship contender, Max Verstappen, is hardly impressed with the series.

Many would have noticed that Netflix tried to create a rivalry out of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, who are indeed best friends in reality (DTS season 3). It may have looked interesting for fresh F1 fans, but for the ones who have been following the sport for years, the ‘rivalry’ may have triggered a giggle.

Hence, the fact that Netflix creates rivalries out of nothing seems to have irked Verstappen. Consequently, the Dutchman revealed that he will not be taking part in DTS season 4, which will cover the 2021 F1 season.

What did Max Verstappen say?

As reported by Formula Passion, Verstappen demanded that Netflix must put up real facts rather than triggering fake rivalries and making a show out of it.

I understand that it has to be done to increase [F1] popularity in America,” Verstappen said. “But for my part, how pilot, I don’t like being a part of it. They’ve faked some rivalries that don’t really exist.

“So I decided not to be part of it and I haven’t given any more interviews, because then there is nothing to show. I’m not the kind of person who makes a show. I just want real facts and things to be seen.

Verstappen reckons this moment will be on Netflix

The Red Bull driver sounded quite confident that the Emilia Romagna incident will be on Netflix’s upcoming season 4 of DTS.

Following the qualifying session, Hamilton and Verstappen had an unintentional shoulder tap in the parc ferme. While neither of them considered it a huge deal, the Dutchman is certain that Netflix will make a story out of it.

Probably in the Netflix show we will be (rivals). Once walking we collided. So this scene will probably be there,” Verstappen reckoned.

Overall, Verstappen has finally opened up that he isn’t a huge fan of Drive to Survive. Yes, season 1 was quite interesting, which pushed a lot of F1 fans to watch the follow-up seasons as well. However, the latest of all, season 3, definitely wasn’t the best. So, is Drive to Survive doomed to fail from here?
