Bosom Buddies and Girls actor Peter Scolari dies aged 66 after cancer battle

Actor Peter Scolari has died at the age of 66 following a two-year battle with cancer.
The Bosom Buddies star’s death was confirmed by his manager Ellen Lubin Sanitsky in a statement on Friday.
Scolari gained fame after he co-starred with Tom Hanks in 1980’s Bosom Buddies.
He was then nominated for an Emmy for his role as Michael Harris on Newhart from 1984-1990.
The actor was most recently seen starring in the CBS drama series, Evil, where he portrayed Bishop Thomas Marx.
Before starring in Evil, Scolari played Tad Horvath on Girls and gained a legion of new fans after he portrayed Lena Dunham’s character’s father.

The actor went on to win his first Emmy for his portrayal of Horvath.
In recent years, Scolari had recurring roles on dramas such as Evil, Gotham, FX’s Fosse/Verdon and Lisey’s Story.
During his career, he also enjoyed a famed career in theater after starring in such as Broadway’s Hairspray, Lucky Guy, and Wicked.

Scolari and Hanks would work together several times over the year, with Scolari appearing in his friend’s directorial debut, That Thing You Do!, and the Hanks-produced HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.
They both also did voice work on 2003’s The Polar Express.
Scolari is survived by his wife, Tracy Shayne, and children Nicholas, Joseph, Keaton, and Cali.
