Jamel Herring Issues Statement After a Heartbreaking Loss to Shakur Stevenson

Despite his sheer efforts, ‘Semper Fi’ Jamel Herring lost his WBO super featherweight title to Shakur Stevenson via TKO in round 10 of their recent collision. Herring looked sharp in the initial stage, but faded away as Stevenson advanced. It turned out to be Herring’s third professional loss.

However, he didn’t hesitate to acknowledge ‘Fearless’ Stevenson for his flawless performance. After sharing a light moment in-ring, Herring took to social media and looked at his recent loss to Stevenson. It was clearly not his night. However, the former champion expressed absolute class even in defeat.

“I just want to thank everyone for their endless support. Congratulations to Shakur Stevenson, he was the better man, and even when I knew I was down I tired my hardest to push forward, no matter what. There was no quit in me, but overall I wish Shakur the best! Thank you all,” wrote Jamel Herring.

Following the outcome of the fight, the entire super featherweight unit can go for a twist. Several 130 pounders have been lurking around for a title shot. As Shakur Stevenson is the champion, several potential thrillers can come to life.

Jamel Herring is still the A-lister boxer

The current 130 champions are- Oscar Valdez, Shakur Stevenson, and Roger Gutierrez with Chris Colbert holding the WBA (Interim) titles. If Herring desires to enter the ride, he needs to face any of the existing champions. Given the on-paper result against Stevenson, an immediate rematch doesn’t seem on the cards.

Hence, he may have to go on a run before rising back into contention. As his 23-3 record is still commendable, the A-lister may not have a shortage of opponents. However, his status as an A-lister will depend heavily on how he fares in his next few outings.
