Ty Gibbs Breaks Joey Logano’s Record to Create NASCAR History at Kansas

Rookie sensation Ty Gibbs has been in red hot form in nearly every Xfinity race that he has competed in. The 19-year-old now boasts of four wins in the Xfinity Series. His latest win comes at the Kansas Speedway, ahead of Austin Cindric and AJ Allmendinger. This is the second race in a row that a non-Playoff entity has won a race.

Naturally, this will add a bit of pressure on the Playoff drivers with two races left. On the bright side, Gibbs’ win has seen him break Joey Logano’s 2009 record as the youngest driver to reach four wins. The Joe Gibbs Racing starlet achieved this at the age of 19 years and 19 days.

Behind the 19-year-old, Cindric and Allmendinger consolidated their Playoff positions. Unfortunately, the likes of Noah Gragson and Harrison Burton endured poor races in 35th and 34th, respectively. Needless to say, it will definitely hurt their Championship 4 hopes. This is because Gragson is 6th in the championship and Burton lies all the way down in 8th. Justin Haley was 4th, with Justin Allgaier in 9th place. Brandon Jones and Daniel Hemric finished 11th and 15th respectively, but it was enough for Hemric to move into the Top 4.

How did Ty Gibbs win the race at Kansas?

Of course, the win did not come easy for him, as he battled fiercely with Austin Cindric. The two of them duelled for a long time, though that lasted until Gibbs got past for good with 11 laps remaining. Ty Gibbs later confessed that it felt incredible to notch up four Xfinity Series wins.

It was a fantastic weekend for Gibbs, in an overall sense. This is because he won the ARCA Menards Series title earlier that race, and finished in 2nd place. All he needs to do to start that race Saturday night to claim the title. Nick Sanchez won the race, but he was miles behind Gibbs and Corey Heim. Heim himself could only muster 3rd place at the season finale. So the title went to a delighted Ty Gibbs.
