Alec Baldwin’s daughter Ireland has branded US commentator Candace Owens ‘disgusting and cancerous’ after she suggested the actor’s involvement in the Rust shooting was ‘poetic justice’.

Last week, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on the set of the Western movie Rust when a gun was discharged by leading actor Baldwin, 63, during rehearsal for a scene.

It later emerged that the prop gun contained a live round, despite the actor reportedly being told the gun was ‘cold’ (without ammunition).

Baldwin has been cooperating with the authorities and no charges have been filed in the investigation.

A number of conservative critics in the States have mocked Baldwin’s involvement in the tragedy due to his vocal opposition to Donald Trump and impersonations of the former president on Saturday Night Live, including Donald Trump Jr, who produced t-shirts reading: ‘Guns don’t kill people, Alec Baldwin kills people.’

Among those critics was Candace Owens, a pro-Trump author and talking head, who wrote in a now-deleted tweet: ‘Alec Baldwin spent 4 years dedicated to painting Donald Trump and his supporters as evil murderers. What has happened to Alec would be an example of poetic justice if it weren’t for the actual innocent people that were murdered by him. Pray for their families. So sad.’

The 32-year-old deleted that tweet and made an amendment, writing: ‘Will correct that last tweet to say Alec Baldwin *killed* someone— not murdered someone, as murder carries a different legal definition.

‘Literally not one single thing that Alec Baldwin has said about Donald Trump and his supporters is going to age well.’

Baldwin’s daughter Ireland, who he shares with ex Kim Basinger, saw the original post, and took to her Instagram stories to call out Owens.

The 26-year-old shared a picture of Owens and wrote: ‘You are the most disgusting, hateful, cancerous human being I’ve ever come across.

‘Regardless of your foul opinions most of the time, the fact that you would disrespect the life of a woman who was accidentally and tragically killed…Shame on you.’

The model shared the offending tweet and told fans she would be taking a break from Instagram, writing: ‘I am ashamed to breathe the same air as this woman.

‘Be a republican. Be unvaccinated. I don’t give a f***. There are plenty of liberal ones that I support as well… But one f***ing thing I find myself doing is being RESPECTFUL.

‘But we aren’t debating masks and vaccines and abortion and trans rights here…a woman’s life was lost. Your tweets, lack of information, and ignorance are hurting people. You and that scumbag @jackmposobiec don’t have a clue what you’re even talking about and you usually never do,’ the

‘I respect people’s opinions… but if you support these absolute clowns… please don’t follow me any more. I beg.’

Ireland later revealed she had a conversation with Owens, sharing a screenshot of DMs in which she wrote: ‘Thank you for taking the time to have a real conversation. Have a peaceful evening’, and Owens replying: ‘No problem. Same to you.’

She captioned the shot: ‘Some times having an actual conversation can go a long way…’

Following the incident on the Rust set, Ireland had tweeted: ‘My love and support go to Halnya Hutchins’ family and friends [sic].
