US Olympic Legend Carl Lewis Gives Crucial 100m Advice to Jamaican World Champion Following His Footsteps

During his illustrious career, Carl Lewis attained immense success, the kind no track and field athlete has achieved to date. The American athlete not only dominated the sprinting events but also triumphed in the long jump events.

Carl Lewis had secured 10 Olympic medals in 100m, 200m, 400m, and long jump events. However, a Jamaican long jumper recently expressed his interest in sprinting after achieving success in the long jump event. Hence, the versatile man himself, Lewis, sent him important advice that would help him dominate both events.

“Go for it”- Carl Lewis motivates Jamaican athlete

Olympian and current world champion in the long jump, Tajay Gayle took to his Twitter, announcing the news. Gayle, who has already proved himself in the long jump event, will now compete in the 100m race.

Tajay said, “Well its official, I’ll be running 100m next season. Sigh didn’t wanna do this to the sprinters but oh well Wish me luck.”

Carl Lewis is undeniably the only athlete who has triumphed in sprinting and long jump events. Lewis sent Tajay a motivating, yet constructive piece of advice as he starts his new journey. Carl wrote, “It’s definitely can be done, so I say to go for it. Remember, the way to win two is to dominate one first. My sprinting came when the long jump was rock solid. I’m sure @kaystreete will tell you the same.”

He further added, “Long jump 8.50 consistently or forget it.”

Kareem Streete-Thompson was also a successful athlete in 100m and long jump events. Although, not as much as Carl. Kareem also tweeted his views on competing in both events, and also praised Carl for his astonishing achievements. “Two totally different events. Two totally different mindsets. There’s a reason why only one man was able to dominate those two events over decades. Much respect…” said Kareem

His personal best in the long jump event is 8.69 m, while in 100m is 10.18 seconds. Do you think Tajay can walk effectively in the footsteps of Carl Lewis and dominate such diverse events?
