WNBA Star Reveals How Stephen Curry Creates and Uses Space on the Court

Stephen Curry is undoubtedly the pioneer who revolutionized the NBA. Especially in terms of three-point shooting. However, the key to his offensive finesse is not just his effectiveness from beyond the arc. He also manages to be in the right place at the right time. And for that, the key factor is his movement on and off the ball.

The way that he is able to create space from his movement is the crucial element in his offensive masterclass. At least that is what WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike and NBA legend Vince Carter agreed upon on their latest segment in the NBA on ESPN’s NBA Today show.

NBA legend and WNBA star discuss the X factor in Stephen Curry

In their latest appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today show, Vince Carter and Chiney Ogwumike discussed what makes Stephen Curry special.

According to Second Spectrum, Stephen Curry averaged 2.58 miles per game since the 2013-14 season. Which is the fourth highest in the league in that span of time. So far this season, he has averaged 2.75 miles per game.

And he is not even known for his athleticism. So seeing him average these numbers only shows how much he hustles to get things done on the offensive end.

Carter and Ogwumike also pointed out that his movement is not always directed at making space for himself. Rather, he also focuses on drawing the defense on him to make space for his teammates to make open shots.

What does this mean for Curry and the Warriors?

What we are witnessing now is most likely the peak of Stephen Curry‘s career. So the Warriors will look to maximize the offensive output from Curry.

There’s no doubt that Curry is a future Hall of Famer. However, can Curry lead the Warriors to a deep playoff run without Klay for most of the season? He certainly can.

But had his Splash Brother been healthier for longer, would the Warriors be a force to be reckoned with? Undoubtedly championship contenders.
