Has Bill Murray, god of all that is pure, let slip he’s joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

We need answers, Bill! (Picture: Getty Images)

Because Bill Murray is not beholden to the same sort of nondisclosure agreements conventional actors seemingly are, he’s gone and revealed he’s joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Usually these sorts of things leak first, then they’re denied, then we go through months of actors playing mum and dancing around their potential casting.

Not King Bill.

The Groundhog Day icon is evidently pretty open about his recent casting, even down to heavily, heavily hinting what movie he’s in.

While speaking with German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Bill let slip he recently made a Marvel film directed by the guy behind Bring It On, who is Peyton Reed, who is, coincidentally helming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

He said, translated by Variety: ‘You know, recently I made a Marvel movie. I probably won’t tell you, but never mind.

‘In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project.

‘But for me the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director – and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director. And with the cheerleader story Bring It On he made a movie years ago which I think is damn good.’

We’re not sure what we’re most excited about from all this: that Bill is going to be in the MCU, or that he’s a big fan of Bring It On.

Still, while he may hold the beliefs that we live in a cheerocracy, his spin around the MCU set seems to be his first and last.

He went on: ‘So I agreed, although I’m not interested in these huge comic book adaptations as an actor otherwise… Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie. But I don’t think I need that experience a second time.’

So while there is no confirmation from Marvel’s end, and Bill didn’t explicitly say ‘hi, I’m in the new Ant-Man’, he is pretty much saying that, let’s be honest. Plus, the Saturday Night Live legend’s IMDB page has already been updated, which is as good as sold in our opinion.

The next Ant-Man instalment will see Paul Rudd reprise his role as the titular Ant-Man (AKA Scott Lang) and Evangeline Lilly will return as the Wasp (AKA Hope van Dyne).

They’ll be joined by Ant-Man regulars Michael Douglas as Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne. The villain Kang the Conqueror will be played by Jonathan Majors, which is a variant of the character he played in Disney Plus series Loki, while Kathryn Newton joins as the grown-up version of Scott’s daughter Cassie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled for release July 28, 2023.
