“Need To Be Ready for Everything”: Daniil Medvedev on the Challenges of Facing Novak Djokovic
The US Open men’s singles final saw a heavyweight clash between World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev. Both players have enjoyed wonderful form in 2021 and previously faced each other in the final of the Australian Open as well. Down Under, it was Nole who emerged victorious, but in New York, Daniil stole the show.
In a recent interview, Medvedev highlighted the obstacles that come into play when he faces Novak Djokovic. He felt that for a player to come out as the winner against the Serb, one has to put in extra effort. He also claimed that the next time he faces Novak, the Serb is going to put up a tougher challenge than the previous encounter.
The interviewer mentioned that usually Medvedev has a 5-minute session with his coach before a match to discuss the next opponent’s tactics. However, for Novak, that session lasted for around an hour.
When asked about the reason for the elongated session, the 25-year-old stated, “Yes not one hour, but probably like 20-30 minutes, which is a lot for me. To beat him in a Slam, especially in the final of a slam and with him going for history, you need to be ready for everything he does and to have an answer for everything he does. That’s what we managed to find for this match.”
