“It’s Dominic With My Trophy”: Alexander Zverev on His Painful US Open Final Loss
The next-gen stars have slowly started making their mark on the ATP tour. German tennis star Alexander Zverev and Austrian talent Dominic Thiem are two players who have been giving the big three players a run for their money.
At the Vienna Open, there was a quiz to commemorate Austria’s national day in which some ATP players participated. However, there was one question that grabbed attention. Players such as Alexander Zverev, Hubert Hurkacz, Felix-Auger Aliassime were shown Austrian icons, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dominic Thiem, and Conchita Wurst’s pictures and asked to identify them.

To Thiem’s picture holding the US Open 2020 title, Zverev’s answer was the funniest. He joked and stated, “I should have been with that trophy, not him. No, I’m kidding. It’s Dominic, of course, with my trophy.”
Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev faced off in the final of the US Open 2020. The match went the distance, and the winner was eventually decided after a five-set epic battle. As the match began, Zverev was playing with real determination and won the first couple of sets.
However, there was a shift in momentum and Thiem claimed the third set. He then held his ground and soon after, he claimed the fourth set. In the fifth and final set, both players gave everything that was left in the tank.
Happy National Day!

Things got so intense that the set had to be decided in a tiebreaker. Both players were going for it in their bid to lift their first Grand Slam title. In the end, Dominic won the tiebreaker and set. He ended up winning the match 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(6).
Coming to this year, Thiem has been on the sidelines for most of this season due to a wrist injury. He will aim to come back for the upcoming 2022 season.

On the other hand, Zverev won the Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. At the moment, he is competing in Vienna. He will be facing Alex De Minaur in the next match. We wish him the best of luck.
