Lily Collins has defended her Emily In Paris character, after critics described her as ‘annoying’, and insisted that she is in fact ‘bright and bubbly.’
The hit Netflix series, which made its debut last year, has had fans divided since its release. Although many would agree the romantic comedy is an easy watch, sine French critics were not so impressed with the cliched view of its capital.
Emily in Paris follows the adventures of Emily, a bright eyed and eager American who suddenly is offered the chance to move to Paris to work for the marketing firm that was just purchased by the larger firm she worked for in Chicago.
In an interview with Nylon, the 32-year-old actress stood up for her stylish character and accepted Emily may be ‘annoying’ to some but her personality traits make her authentic.
Lily said: ‘A lot of the qualities that Emily has, if you put them on paper, would seem so annoying.
‘To have someone be optimistic, bright and bubbly, it’s sad to think that people would look and go, that’s a lot.

‘They’re such beautiful qualities, and the fact that she can partner that with being vulnerable and asking for help and making mistakes, she’s not infallible.’
The actress was aware of the harsh criticism the show faced, in an interview with Vogue Arabia, Lily said: ‘As disheartening as it sometimes is to read these things, it’s also a gift; you’re being allowed to improve.’
Lucas, who stars as chef Gabriel, said that while he ‘understands all the critics’, he is ‘so happy and grateful’ to have taken part in the show.
