“Best Chance To Really Build”: Dominic Thiem Targets Australian Open 2022 Return After Injury

Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem is one of the finest players on the men’s Tour. The 28-year-old won his first Grand Slam in 2020 but has been unable to build on it in the 2021 season. Due to a wrist injury suffered in June, he has missed the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open this season.

Recently, Dominic Thiem mentioned that he is targeting a return to the Tour during the early part of the 2022 season. He intends to compete in the warm-up events in Australia, followed by the first Grand Slam event of the season, the Australian Open 2022.

Dominic Thiem is optimistic about the upcoming 2022 season

Thiem is glad that he would have more time than usual, three months in order to recover and practice during the off-season for the next year. Having reached the final of the Australian Open in 2020, it does make sense for him to target this event in the next season.

He spoke about his return and stated, “Right now, of course, the focus is on the hand. I currently have five to six treatments a day, which alone takes up to three and a half hours. As unfortunate as the injury was, now I have the best chance to really build up over a period of three months. You don’t get such a chance in a normal tennis year. When I start tournament games again in Australia in January, I’ll hopefully be one hundred percent ready and I’ll be better off physically and playfully than ever before.”

Coming to tennis this season, Thiem was last seen competing in Mallorca but had to withdraw from his first-round match due to the injury. We hope to see him recover soon and compete for the biggest trophies once again.
