The Saudi-backed Super Golf League, which is also well-known as a rival league to PGA Tour, is once again making headlines. As they have made some important announcements recently. Meanwhile, according to Golfweek, a private meeting with a few golf media members is all set to take place. And it was also said that they aren’t allowed to break the news till early next week.

However, they have released an important update about this new rival league today. They have announced the investors, locations, and Tours associated with this event. So let us have a look at the latest updates and get to know more about this Saudi-backed Super Golf League.

PGA Tour rival league announces the investors, locations, and other details

Earlier yesterday, they had announced Greg Norman as the commissioner for their event. And today, there has been a new update about his cash-rich series. According to Ryan Ballengee, the Saudi-backed league will start as a 10-event series on the Asian Tour. Moreover, the locations for the events are Asia, Europe, and, of course, the Middle East.

Furthermore, they have even announced that Greg Norman will be the CEO of the LIV Golf Investments, which is connected to this series. Meanwhile, the majority shareholder of LIV Golf Investments is the Public Investment Fund, which is also investing arm of the Saudi Arabian government.

The Saudi-backed Super Golf League will apparently start as a 10-event series on the Asian Tour. Greg Norman has been named CEO of LIV Golf Investments, which is connected to the series. Events are in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. No specific player commitments announced yet.

Ultimately, the Asian Tour is likely the vehicle to launch the bigger circuit as it could mean world ranking points for the events without needing a new Tour to be approved through the OWGR, which would probably be reluctant, at best, to do so for the league on its own.

Moreover, they are targeting the Asian Tour as the launch vehicle, as they won’t need any approval for the world ranking points. Because launching a new Tour would force them to get approval through OWGR. And this would probably not be a great idea, at least at the beginning of the league.

Meanwhile, there is no specific player commitments announcement yet. And the PGA Tour players probably still need approval from the Tour since this is still an event outside the PGA Tour. So it will be interesting to see how things shape up in the next few days, as this was just a warm-up announcement. Moreover, there are still a few things that will be disclosed in the upcoming weeks.
