How Many Losses Has Colby Covington Suffered in the UFC and Against Whom?
UFC welterweight Colby Covington is one of the most polarizing figures in mixed martial arts. The number 1 ranked welterweight doesn’t hold his words back and more often than not backs them up inside the octagon.
‘Chaos’ is a former NCAA Division 1 wrestler before transitioning into MMA. He has a record of 16 wins and 2 losses in his professional MMA career. The former UFC welterweight title challenger was 5-0 in his career before being signed by the UFC. After joining the promotion, he won three fights in a row.
However, in his fourth fight in the UFC, Covington went up against Warlley Alves at UFC 194. The Brazilian fighter was on a winning streak of his own and was also 3-0 in the UFC. Something had to give, and Alves after stuffing Covington’s early takedown attempt caught him with a guillotine choke and submitted him. That was his first loss in MMA.
However, he quickly got back on track and went on to win his next seven fights. He mixed his striking and ground game brilliantly and one could see how he had grown as a fighter since the loss. The winning streak eventually got him a title shot.
Covington went up against Kamaru Usman, in a grudge match at UFC 245. There was visible animosity between the two, which made for an excellent fight. Both men didn’t hold back, and after five grueling rounds, Usman won via TKO in the fifth. This was the second loss for ‘Chaos’ in his career, and he even had his jaw broken during the fight.
Since then, he has fought just once against Tyron Woodley. Covington won that fight via TKO in the fifth round. Right now he’s preparing for a rematch against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare.’

Colby Covington’s push for the title
Colby Covington vs. Kamaru Usman 2 is scheduled for UFC 268. Usman is coming off a win against Jorge Masvidal and seems confident before the fight. He has defended his title four times already and seems to improve with every fight. However, Covington, if their first encounter is any indication, Covington will not back down from taking on the champ. Both men went after each other in the first fight, and ‘Chaos’ had the champion in trouble several times.
Many believe that he is probably the toughest competition for ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in the welterweight division. Everyone expects the fight to be a banger, same as the first one. Their fight at UFC 245 earned the ‘Fight of the Night’ and was easily one of the best fights of 2019.
Covington will also have the extra motivation of avenging his loss and will look to try everything to take that belt away from Usman, and become the new UFC welterweight champion. And one thing everyone has seen in the past, Covington bounced back in a big way after his first loss, and that might just be the case this time as well.
