WATCH: Martinsville Clock Chimes Leaving NASCAR Conference in Fits of Laughter as AJ Allmendinger Was Talking

Earlier, the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff concluded at the Martinsville Speedway. With that, AJ Allmendinger, Austin Cindric, Daniel Hemric and Noah Gragson are through to the season finale. After the Martinsville race, the Championship 4 contenders spoke about how the event panned out for them.

Suddenly, while Allmendinger was speaking, the famous Martinsville clock chimed. He understandably got a little distracted, and that prompted laughter in the conference room. Luckily, the distraction did not last long and picked up where he left off, as if nothing had happened.

Without a doubt, the Martinsville grandfather clock is one of the most iconic trophies in NASCAR. Apparently, it is a homage to the city’s furniture industry and the practice began in 1964. Since then, the clocks have become synonymous with the Martinsville Speedway.

How did the race play out for AJ Allmendinger and company?

On a more serious note, Allmendinger said, “From 2018 on, I didn’t think that something like this was ever going to happen. I didn’t think I’d win as many races, at the places that I’ve won at. Get another Cup win and do it at Indy. So all of it has been a dream come true. No matter what has happened throughout these playoffs, it didn’t change how I felt about the season.”

It was at this point that the clock chimed, and he was interrupted. When there was some semblance of decorum, AJ Allmendinger insisted that at the end of the day, the primary goal is to go to Phoenix. For his part, he feels that he and Kaulig Racing have been working hard. Allmendinger himself has been hard at work on the simulator, with the sole focus on the Phoenix finale.

He acknowledged that there are still some more gains to make. However, he is confident that he has a shot at the title, but the year has been incredible for him, no matter what. He also credited Austin Cindric and Daniel Hemric for helping improve his skills as a driver.
