Andy Ruiz Jr Calls Out Stablemate Deontay Wilder – Says ‘It’s All Business’

Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. called out Deontay Wilder. ‘The Destroyer’ is currently back in training after a successful surgery on his knee.

Ruiz recently appeared on the ‘Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer’. When Custer asked ‘The Destroyer’ if he would want to fight against Deontay Wilder, Ruiz Jr, replied in the affirmative.

He said, “Yes, I do, and I think that would be an amazing fight. Me against Deontay Wilder, and you know we’re both part of the same team. It’s all business, so I wouldn’t mind getting in the ring with him. I feel I could beat him and, you know, we gotta get it on.”

Ruiz also spoke about Wilder’s performance against Tyson Fury in their trilogy fight.

“I thought that was an awesome fight. They were going back and forth, and I didn’t know who was going to win. Deontay, he has the heart of a lion. He doesn’t want to give up, and he kept coming.”

“He kept getting up, falling down, and getting up. It wasn’t an amazing fight. Hats off to Tyson Fury. He did his thing,” said Ruiz.

Ruiz is in search of his next opponent as he looks to get another chance at the title. As the 32-year-old looked sloppy in his last fight against Chris Arreola, he will have to return with a bang if he wants a title shot soon.

Andy Ruiz Jr.’s weight loss

While on the podcast, Ruiz revealed that he lost around 40 pounds ever since he started training with Reynoso and Alvarez. When Ruiz fought Anthony ‘AJ’ Joshua, he was much heavier and had more muscle on him. The Mexican’s power and striking shocked the boxing world as he knocked Joshua down.

However, ever since he lost weight, he does not seem to have the same kind of power or punch resistance as before. When he fought against the 40-year-old Chris Arreola, ‘The Destroyer’ did not seem to be getting much power behind his punches. Moreover, Arreola also managed to knock him down. Experts suggest this had to do with his weight and muscle loss.

Will Ruiz rely on his movement and re-discover his punching abilities on his return? Or will he regain the pounds? What would you make of a potential fight between him and Deontay Wilder?
