Alex Bowman’s Crew Chief Gets Brutally Honest on Denny Hamlin’s Post-Race Comments at Martinsville

Greg Ives, the crew chief of Martinsville race winner Alex Bowman, recently reacted to Denny Hamlin’s post-race comments of the driver and his team.

Ives, to many’s surprise, had a very honest and fair reaction to Hamlin’s brutal remarks.

He has the right to his opinion on that one, and yeah, I mean, if roles were reversed, I’d probably be upset as well,” the crew chief said in a recent interview with SiriusXM.

With seven laps to go, Bowman made contact with race leader Hamlin in an attempt to pass him.

This led to Hamlin spinning while Bowman went clean through and won the race in Martinsville.

As a result, he found himself on the receiving end of a pretty brutal assessment by the 40-year-old driver who finished in 24th place.

Hamlin called Bowman an absolute hack for his driving.

He then went on to further criticise his performances in the fastest car.

Greg Ives knows

The crew chief insisted their team has the ability to win the races as reflected in their four wins this season.

But he also admitted that they have to avoid such instances to continue their progress.

“There’s no doubt that in order for us to be better, we have to be cleaner.”

Alex Bowman and Greg Ives not hurt by Hamlin’s comments

However brutal Hamlin’s comments were towards Bowman and his team, Greg Ives explained neither he nor Bowman took it to their hearts.

“It’s not like it hurt my feelings, or Alex’s, sometimes that’s the truth and we know it.”

He pointed out that they try to race as cleanly as they can and nobody can point out something to them which they don’t already know.

In the interview, Ives said, some things are said truthfully, and some are said out of spite.

Considering his reaction to Hamlin’s comments, it’s not that hard to guess which side Ives is on.

Do you think Hamlin was being spiteful or was he being truthful?
