Bermuda Championship Winner Lucas Herbert Has a Laughable Amount of Knowledge About the Place

Recently, Lucas Herbert had his first win at the Bermuda Championship. What was special about this, is that this was Herbert’s first-ever PGA Tour title. It poured down on the Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, the wind was strong and unforgiving. Herbert stood underneath a palm tree, aware that this event was no easy feat.

Held right after the Zozo Championship in Japan, the Bermuda Championship barely had players who draw in the crowd. The weather itself was harsh, many wondering how the result would turn out. Despite a crowd not many expect, players at Bermuda were veterans, and also some young stars looking to make their place as PGA Tour players.

Lucas Herbert’s interesting response to a question about Bermuda

During an interview, Herbert was asked about his perception of Bermuda. To those who have been to the island, it is easily one of the most beautiful places on earth. Perfect for a holiday, it promises a good relaxing time. What Herbert remembers, however, is more about the Bermuda Triangle.

“There’s a sizeable triangle that seems to capture a lot of ships and planes, that’s kind of the extent of my knowledge on Bermuda, I think,” he said.

The Bermuda Triangle is infamous for disappearing ships and planes. With no actual reason being discovered, people are skeptical about the place. But this holds true only for the Bermuda Triangle, a part of the ocean. The Bermuda island is not related, clearly suffering due to its namesake.

Herbert on his Bermuda Championship win

“I love playing when it’s really hard,” he said. “I think it makes you be that little bit better and it just eliminates the guys who maybe aren’t as good. I just enjoyed the struggle out there as well today”.

Herbert added that he stopped sitting down behind an umbrella and just focusing on having fun. He was trailing by four shots when the final round began, but birdie putts propelled him ahead, overtaking Patrick Reed – the highest-ranked player on the field.

“I got over that putt on 14 and went, like this is your range, you’ve holed so many of these this week, like you’re probably going to hole this one as well,” Herbert added. From that point onwards, he and the putter just knew they were not going to miss.

Looking back, Herbert started his professional career back in 2015 on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Eventually branching out, he has also won two European Tour events.
