Kate Lawler rushed her two-week-old baby to A&E after her finger became infected.

The Big Brother winner welcomed her daughter Noa with partner Martin earlier this month, and it’s already been a dramatic few weeks for the baby, after she was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit with breathing issues when she was born 11 days early.

Noa is now back in hospital and had to spend the night there after being diagnosed with paronychia, or inflammation of the skin around the nail.

Kate, 40, brought Noa into A&E just before 1am, after calling 111.

The radio presenter explained on her Instagram stories: ‘Called 111 as her fingertip was red, hot and swollen. Was told to bring her straight to A&E to get it seen to as it’s infected.’

Kate showed off the baby’s index finger, which looked red and painful, and said that she hoped they would be sent home with antibiotics.

Unfortunately, Kate and Noa had to stay overnight because the baby was too young to be sent home with antibiotics, and the star shared that Noa became ‘distressed’ during attempts to insert a cannula.

Kate shared a picture of Noa sleeping with her left arm strapped up and a cannula inserted and wrote: ‘It took eight attempts to get her cannula in. That’s eight needles into a different part of her hand or foot until they were successful. We have to stay 24 hours. I need to sleep.

‘Noa has paronychia. It’s an infection of the finger and it’s being treated via antibiotics via the cannula. She slept well from 4am. She looks healthy so hopefully it’s a sign she’s responding well. Hopefully we can go home later this evening.’

Kate kept her fans updated throughout her pregnancy and her fiancé Martin confirmed earlier this month that their first child had been born, although there was a ‘complication’ during the birth.

Since welcoming Noa, Kate has shared all the difficulties she has experienced, and admitted that her first week at home with her daughter was the ‘most overwhelming experience of my life’.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘While Noa is beyond perfect, I don’t know if I’m coming or going. One minute I’m fine, the next someone asks how I’m doing and I burst into tears. As I type this and ask myself that very question – how are YOU doing it’s made me cry. I’ve cried so much since she was born.

‘I’ve cried because I’m tired, I’m not feeling confident in what I’m doing or if either of us are doing it right, over horrendous, dark thoughts about losing my daughter, when our meditation playlist came on as it reminded me of when Noa was in NICU. I cried over spilt milk – literally. Expressed milk, poured into a storage bag which fell over, sending milk everywhere. BRILLIANNNT. I cry because my hands and my arms are in excruciating pain from carpal tunnel syndrome. Nobody told me this is common for new Mums. Anyone else suffered from this? Pins and needles, numbness, shooting pains in hands and up my arms. I’ve got wrist splints on now though which are helping.

‘Saturday night Noa began showing signs of difficulty breathing so we rushed her to a&e and thankfully were seen immediately. Her respiratory levels were high so bloods were taken but all came back normal and she settled so we went home.

‘I see other new Mums on here looking glam, like the first two weeks are a breeze and I truly wish I could say it is but it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. Hopefully it’ll get easier.’

Kate will further delve into her road to motherhood on the MTV show Celebrity Bumps: Famous and Pregnant, which follows stars including Charlotte Dawson and Towie’s Shelby Tribble during pregnancy.
