Dexter: New Blood fans praise ‘return to form’ as premiere regains trust after season 8 finale

It’s been a long time since fans last saw Dexter Morgan, but he’s back to his best in Dexter: New Blood.

The crime drama’s eighth season almost became a blueprint for how NOT to end a TV show with fans and critics left bitterly disappointed, and it’s safe to say returning actor Michael C. Hall and original showrunner Clyde Phillips had a lot of pressure with the revival.

Thankfully, fans seemed to be delighted with the premiere of the 10-episode series, with many hailing it was a true ‘return to form’ recalling the show’s highly praised first four seasons.

New Blood picks up 10 years after 2013 finale ‘Remember The Monsters?’, which was a whirlwind of emotions as Dexter’s sister Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) died before he faked his death, left Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski) and their son Harrison and went into hiding as a lumberjack.

However, everyone involved has done a fine job of getting back on track, with one fan tweeting: ”#DexterNewBlood’s first episode was superb. What a return to form. I can’t wait to see where this goes next.’

Another added: ‘What a great start for one of the greatest shows of all time. Michael C Hall never lost it. #DexterNewBlood’

And a different viewer said: ”THOROUGHLY enjoyed the first episode, inner monologue came back just at the perfect moment #DexterNewBlood’

Plenty of fans even seemed to already think the new series has done enough to make up for the season eight finale with the hope this can be a fitting ending to the show as a whole.

‘This TOTALLY makes up for the finale from season 8. Give me ALL OF IT! #DexterNewBlood,’ tweeted one excited viewer.

While another fan said: ‘DexterNewBlood was great! This season has so much potential. I’m so happy this show will get the ending it deserves and we can all forget about season 8.’

Not everyone was so certain things would be better this time, with one fan admitting they were ‘nervous’ about tuning in for the premiere.

They wrote: ‘Have you ever been nervous to watch a TV show? #Dexter #DexterNewBlood’

And another viewer clearly isn’t over the previous ending, as they warned: ‘If the show ends in Dexters death… I will riot #DexterNewBlood (sic)’

They wouldn’t… surely?

Dexter: New Blood airs on Showtime and is available to watch on Now TV.
