‘He Gave Me Permission to Use That Song’- Colby Covington Explains Why He Used the Kurt Angle Theme Song at UFC 268

The UFC welterweight top contender Colby Covington stunned the fans with the theme song of the WWE Hall of Fame Kurt Angle for his UFC 268 walkout. The crowd at the mecca of fighting Madison Square Garden erupted with ‘You S*ck’ chants during the walkout. However, ‘Chaos’ was unfazed by it.

Covington seemed to enjoy the moment and claimed that the crowd was playing in his game. In the post-fight press conference ‘Chaos’ said, Kurt Angle personally gave him permission to use the theme song for his much-awaited welterweight title rematch against Kamaru Usman.

He said, “Man, every time I hear the crowd saying ‘You s*ck’, it is such a freaking humbling experience. It’s just it’s beautiful. I love it, you know. It’s just they are playing right into my game. I have everybody right where I want them.”

“They’re in my trap in my web. And it’s just beautiful, you know. I would never have used that song if I didn’t, you know, personally, ask Kurt Angle. He gave me permission to use that song and, you know, just to recreate this moment. And get the crowd into the show.”

“They were a part of the show tonight. They were screaming; you know. Some of them loved me, some hated me, but they were entertaining and they got their money’s worth tonight and that’s what it’s all about here at the UFC. It’s giving the fans, you know, a show for what they’re paying for. They are paying their hard-earned money for this, so it was amazing. I loved it.”

Will Colby Covington Run for the Title Again

‘Chaos’ faced a setback in his first attempt to gain the welterweight gold from the Nigerian champion Kamaru Usman. Unfortunately, the Miami native faced the same fate in his second desperate attempt to lay his hands on UFC gold at UFC 268.

However, the defeats won’t stop ‘Chaos’ from taking aim at the 170lbs gold again. The 33-year-old has a plan mapped out for yet another shot at the title. Right after his defeat, ‘Chaos’ expressed his interest in fighting his friend turned foe Jorge Masvidal in the quest for the UFC gold.

Not only Masvidal, ‘Chaos’ is willing to fight anyone to get a trilogy fight with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in the UFC. Covington, in the post-fight press conference, said, “I will see him again. I am not done with him. I’ll fight whoever it takes to get back there. And I think the heated rivalry with me and my old roommate ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal. Let’s do it”

Chiefly, getting a third title shot won’t be an easy task. The Miami native will have to earn some more wins other than Masvidal to his name for another title shot.

However, considering his two setbacks against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, there’s less probability for Covington to win against him. He might have to wait for a new champion in the division.
