Leaks Suggest Call of Duty Could Go the Black Ops Route in 2023

Call of Duty: Vanguard has just been released. Information regarding the next installment is extremely scarce. There is little to no confirmation or certainty about how Call of Duty 2022 is going to be. However, it looks like there is no rest for the community. Reports are popping up which hint towards the fate of Call of Duty 2023 already.

Call of Duty: Black Ops?

A leaker took to Twitter to inform the community about the game’s setting as well as the developer responsible for it for 2023. Leaks in general are mostly hearsay and, once in a blue moon, reliable. However, this is the same leaker who predicted the remaster of Modern Warfare 2’s campaign for next-gen consoles. This time, the leaker claimed that 2023’s installment of the series will have Treyarch as the lead.

The leaker also stated that the game will move back to the Black Ops universe.

The same thread sheds some light on the game’s setting. There has been a lot of discussion about where COD will take the player next. Is it World War I, or Modern-day combat? Perhaps the Vietnam or Korean War?

The leak claimed that Call of Duty 2023 will be set in the near future. This is similar to Battlefield 2042, or closer home, Call of Duty: Black Ops II. These games are set in the near future, featuring elements of both modern as well as futuristic combat.

Similar to the setting seen in Battlefield 2042, setting itself in the near future.

The leaker’s claims do indeed corroborate what we know. The development cycle for COD is rotated between Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer Games. Last year’s game was handled by Treyarch, this year’s release was handled by Sledgehammer games and next year’s Call of duty will be developed by Infinity Ward. It, therefore, makes complete sense that Call of Duty 2023 will have Treyarch at the helm for development.

Even though the leaker in question is somewhat reliable, no leak can be completely trusted. Players and fans will have to wait for official confirmation from Activision regarding the franchise’s future.
