Strictly Come Dancing stars Adam Peaty and Katya Jones are said to be ‘in good spirits’ after their departure despite the athlete’s mum’s upset over their elimination.

On Saturday night, Adam and Katya performed an upbeat Jive to Little Bitty Pretty One by Frankie Lymon.

Having received a score of 27 from the judges, landing at the bottom of the leaderboard, the pair ended up in the bottom two with Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin, after which judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke voted to save the latter.

On the results show, both Adam and Katya broke down in tears as they spoke to presenter Tess Daly, with the swimmer saying that he has ‘so much respect for everyone that dances across the world and to all of these contestants and pros that put themselves on the line every single week’.

‘I’ve never had a challenge like this. As an Olympian for 16 years, I’ve pushed my body to places that I never thought it could be pushed,’ he also said.

A Strictly source emphasised to Metro.co.uk that while the couple were ‘visibly sad’ during the results programme, they are currently in ‘good spirits’.

‘Emotions often run high on Strictly as no one wants to go home and Katya and Adam were sad that their Strictly journey might be coming to an end,’ they said.

‘It was clear on the results show that they were visibly upset to leave the competition but they are both in good spirits now.’

While Adam and Katya may have made peace with their elimination, on Sunday evening, Adam’s mum Caroline Peaty expressed her anger on Twitter, describing the outcome as a ‘total fix’.

‘Proud @adam_peaty and @Mrs_katjones such an amazing partnership and @Mrs_katjones you have taught my baby boy how to dance, thank you x Total fix and I’m not buying the public vote,’ she wrote.

Katya responded by writing: ‘Thank you for your support Caroline and the entire family. He is definitely a dancer inside and I’ve seen it with my eyes! What a privilege it’s been for me. X.’

In a post shared on Instagram, Adam spoke out against those who directed negativity towards him and Katya during their time on the series, writing: ‘For the people who tried to bring us down throughout the show, please challenge yourself to be better. The world needs much more positivity and truth.’

Strictly Come Dancing returns this Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
