Travis Scott ‘attended Astroworld after-party’ but ‘didn’t know the severity of situation’

Travis Scott reportedly visited a sports bar for an after-party following his Astroworld Festival, unaware of the ‘severity’ of the tragedy.

On Friday night, eight people between the ages of 14 and 27 were killed after a crowd surged during Scott’s performance at the NRG Park in Houston, Texas.

A further 300 people were injured, including a nine-year-old boy who is in a medically induced coma and a 22-year-old woman who has been left with no brain activity.

According to TMZ, Scott, real name Jacques Webster, went to a branch of Dave & Buster’s following the concert, and sources say the Sicko Mode rapper wasn’t told that anyvody has died.

An insider told the publication: ‘Travis didn’t know the severity of the situation when he arrived at the party, as far as timing, this remains consistent with the fact that no one including the police had publicly confirmed the gravity of the events that had taken place.’

Drake, who joined the Astroworld Festival as a guest, threw the after-party, and it is claimed he was also unaware of the tragedy that was unfolding.

Scott reportedly left the party when he was told about the fatalities.

The 30-year-old came on stage around 9:30pm, and the concert was called off at 10:10pm by Live Nation, the promoters.

However, the incident began around the same time as Scott’s set, and he has come under extreme criticism for continuing his performance as unconscious bodies were pulled from the crowd.

An ambulance arrived to help the injured, while a number of attendees pleaded with camera operators on stage to stop the show. 

Sources allege that Scott did not see the bodies or hear the pleas to stop the performance.

In a video statement, the rapper – who is expecting his second child with Kylie Jenner – said: ‘My fans really mean the world to me and I always want to leave them with a positive experience. Anytime I can make out anything that’s going on, you know, I stop the show and you know, help them get the help they need. I could just never imagine the severity of the situation.’

Kylie, who was at the festival with three-year-old daughter Stormi, also insisted she was unaware of the tragedy unfolding when she filmed footage of the gig for social media.

Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña told the Today programme: ‘The artist has command of that crowd. In my opinion – and this is my opinion because everything is going to be fleshed out throughout this investigation – the artist, if he notices something that’s going on, he can certainly pause that performance, turn on the lights, and say, “Hey, we’re not gonna continue until this thing is resolved.”’

Peña added that he wasn’t blaming Scott for the surge, saying: ‘I’m not prepared to say that he was fully aware of what was going on.’

Scott, who has already been hit by a number of lawsuits, has reportedly pledged to pay for the funerals of the victims.
