James Haskell appeared to let slip that his father in law Richard Madeley is going on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here during an interview on Good Morning Britain.

The rugby star and former contestant, 36, was asked how his father-in-law Richard, 65, might do on the show as he is rumoured to be one of the stars heading to the castle this year.

James told Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard: ‘Hypothetically, if they were to be going in, unconfirmed obviously, as it is, I would say the hardest thing is the lack of feedback.’

He added: ‘I walked out and the first day I walked out, Chloe was like “Look, we need to have a word. You’ve gone from doing really well to a day where you were public enemy number one.”’

James then told the hosts: ‘I think he’ll be amazing, and I tell you what -‘ to which Ben interjected: ‘He will be amazing or he might be?’

The sportsman then corrected himself: ‘He might be amazing. He might be amazing, hypothetically.’

He laughed: ‘I feel like one of your politicians – “I didn’t take the money, I didn’t do anything! I certainly don’t have a second job!”’

James, who is married to Richard’s daughter Chloe Madeley, 34, revealed that Richard would be a well-loved contestant on the show, explaining: ‘Hypothetically, I think he would.

‘But do you know what, my one bugbear with Richard is that he has made my life with my wife so much more difficult because he is such a good man, that she puts him on a pedestal as a reference point for everything. I fall way short of that, way short, and she always compares us.

‘I think if he was to go in there, he’d be compassionate, he’d be sweet, he’ll be kind, he’ll be intelligent. He’ll understand how to look after people, he’s a feminist, he’s everything, he crosses all those boundaries.

‘I think he’ll make entertaining TV and he’ll help people. And do you know what, the fire still burns bright with him – I know he was on GMB and doing everything else but I reckon if you give him a chance, he’d be everywhere doing everything. He would never have retired so I think he’ll enjoy it.’

Susanna spotted that James said he ‘will’ enjoy it rather than ‘might’, quickly correcting him: ‘If, IF, he is in there.’
