Chase Briscoe Sarcastically Recalls Infamous Incident With Denny Hamlin During Petit Le Mans Race

Chase Briscoe, the NASCAR Cup Series driver for Stewart-Haas Team, clearly hasn’t forgotten the race in Indianapolis. He recently replied to a tweet that was almost a recreation of Briscoe and Hamlin’s incident from earlier this season.

In the Petit Le Man’s race of 2021, an incident between car No. 10 and car No. 31 made Briscoe feel nostalgic.

Did he get a penalty for getting pushed off and cutting the corner? https://t.co/snXS4qCbtS

One of the cars, towards the end of the race, went off track and cut the corner before coming back to the track. Briscoe sarcastically asked whether the car that cut the corner because of being possibly forced off-track was awarded a penalty.

This is almost identical to, if not a copy of, the incident between rookie Chase Briscoe and veteran Denny Hamlin at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in August 2021.

The incident between Chase Briscoe and Denny Hamlin

With two laps to go in overtime, Chase Briscoe was running second behind Denny Hamlin. As the two cars in front made their way into the turn, Hamlin didn’t leave him enough space and, as a result, Briscoe was forced to go off track.

He made his way back onto the field by cutting the corner through the grass and back out on track. But he was given was a penalty for doing so.

In Turn 10, Briscoe, unaware of the penalty and eager for his first win, hit Hamlin from behind and spun him out, costing Hamlin his first win of the season. He eventually finished in 23rd.

This act by Briscoe left many speculating whether he did so as a form of retaliation against Hamlin.

After the race, the two got in a heated exchange as Denny Hamlin confronted Chase Briscoe out on the track. The feud didn’t end there either. The two drivers got in an immature social media exchange of words, throwing jabs and witty remarks at each other.

But as things stand now, the season is over. Denny Hamlin lost out on his first championship and Chase Briscoe has kept his seat in his team while winning the Rookie of the Year award.
