WATCH: Clyde Edwards-Helaire Becomes Latest NFL Taunting Rule Victim for ‘Pointing’ at his Opponent

It was definitely a treat for the Kansas City Chiefs fans to see them win against the Dak Prescott led Dallas Cowboys. However, the Chiefs would still be furious that the new NFL taunting emphasis has claimed yet another victim this time from the Chiefs, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire suffered a penalty for pointing at the Cowboys linebacker Luke Gifford before his touchdown.

The running back was making his way to the end zone after catching a pass from Patrick Mahomes at the 5-yard line. However, before crossing the touchline, Clyde Edwards-Helaire pointed at the Cowboys linebacker in the essence of celebration. Because of the extra emphasis on taunting, the Chiefs were penalized 15 yards after the touchdown.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, the new victim of the NFL’s taunting emphasis

As according to the NFL rulebook, taunting is any unsportsmanlike conduct. It is defined as “baiting or taunting acts or words that may engender ill will between teams.” The penalty forced Chiefs placekicker Harrison Butker to resume the game with a 48 yard kick instead of a 33 yard kick.

Some people wondered why the touchdown stood, since Edwards pointed at Gifford even before he entered the end zone. As according to the released clip, Edwards was clearly near and about the 1 yard line when he made the action.

According to the rulebook, the penalty for taunting is 15 yards “from the succeeding spot or whatever spot the Referee, after consulting with the crew, deems equitable.” With Edwards, it was the end zone that was deemed fair by the officials.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire should be banned for life! That’s just inhumane what he did, I genuinely fear for the Cowboy players state of mind, he deserves a medal for keepin his composure in that moment. We don’t need scenes like that on the lords day pic.twitter.com/efuXIYBUHY

Kansas City Chiefs on an uphill

Many fans took to Twitter to express their disagreement with the penalty call. The questionable flag was not something that was encouraged. However, some even mocked the NFL by saying what a “joke” this rule is.

The Chiefs have once again stunned the NFL with yet another victory down the road to their comeback mile. They stand tall on the AFC West table with a 7-4 record that seems to go uphill since week 7.
