The Mercedes F1 Secret Which Was Hidden in Plain in Sight
Mercedes F1 team looks back at their 2018 season and W09 car in the new episode of the Silver Arrows Story. The team won another drivers’ and constructors’ championship, claimed 11 wins, and completed a fifth double title win.
Justin takes us through Mercedes’ 2018 campaign and this time gives us a sneak peek into the livery of the Silver Arrows team. A new addition to the W09 car, the four lines on the side of the Mercedes car.
“If you take a look down the side of the Chassis, you can see four lines which represent the four championships that we’ve won in the modern era,” shared Justin.

Mercedes share how they get the three-pointed star on the car
Mercedes is recognised around the world through their three-pointed star. In the recent episode, Justin shares how the team gets that famous logo on their Formula 1 racing cars.
“One of the things that we haven’t showed you yet in the series is one of the most important things on the car and that is the three-pointed star. Each one of these is airbrushed by hand and it takes 27 steps to go through the process and takes around 40 minutes to complete,” he said.
The W08 of 2017 was also a championship-winning car. The 2018 car was simply an evolution of the W08 with similar foundations. A car that allowed them to build on their previous championship-winning cars.
This season, the team is going for their eighth double championship stretch. The team recently extended their contract with Lewis Hamilton until 2021. The team has dominated the hybrid era and they are expected to close out the season with another double-title.
Meanwhile, the 2022 regulations are around the corner to make things more interesting. The new era will play a decisive role and make the grid more competitive. It will be interesting to see whether the Brackley Squad will continue their domination into the next era as well.
Do you think Mercedes will transition their domination into the new era or do you reckon that the 2022 technical regulations will mark the end of the sport’s longest-running domination?
