“He’s a Savage Inside the Octagon”- Michael Chandler Hits Back at Conor McGregor Haters

Michael Chandler really seems to be pushing for a fight against Conor McGregor. But he’s not looking to trash talk his way to it.

Ever since his recent loss at UFC 268, he has been lobbying for a fight against the former two-division champion. In a recent interview, ‘Iron’ Chandler paid respect to McGregor as a fighter and called people discrediting him haters.

‘The Notorious’ is currently out of action because of a gruesome injury sustained during his last fight. He is currently on a two-fight skid and has won one of his last four fights. Chandler is himself on a two-fight losing streak. He lost to Charles Oliveira in a lightweight title bout and recently lost to Justin Gaethje in a brutal matchup.

However, ‘Iron‘ Michael Chandler believes that a fight between him and the Irishman would be an entertaining one. In the interview, he said, “He’s a savage inside the octagon, I’m a savage inside the octagon. When the cage door closes and Bruce Buffer says it’s time, it’s time to go out there and we’re going to put on a show for the fans. And sell a ton of pay-per-views.”

“That left hand can put anybody out on the entire planet,” Chandler said. “I think my right hand can put anybody out on the entire planet, so I think it’s a perfect fight. It’s a different approach when you’re fighting a guy like Conor because fighting a guy like Gaethje, who loves to brawl, is much easier than a guy who you’re really afraid to sometimes throw a punch at because of the shot that you don’t see coming as you’re pulling your hand back.”

He also said, “He’s a different level of competitor, and anybody who discredits him because he’s lost fights is just either a casual or a Conor hater, to be honest with you.”

Michael Chandler credits Conor McGregor for the popularity of the sport

Not many people like to talk well about ‘The Notorious‘ Conor McGregor. Everyone is looking to get in a trash talk battle with him, and most of the time, it doesn’t end well for them. However, Michael Chandler has nothing but respect for him.

Since losing to Gaethje at UFC 268, Chandler has let everyone know he would like to fight McGregor next. In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Chandler clarified why he wants to fight him. The payday is obviously a factor, but that’s not the primary motivation behind it.

He said, “The sport of mixed martial arts is better because Conor McGregor is in it. It’s bigger, and it’s got more eyeballs on it because of what Conor has done. To share the octagon with him, that’s why I want to do it. It’s not the payday, it’s not the red panty night.”
