UFC planned Rafael dos Anjos vs Islam Makhachev for UFC 267. Unfortunately, the bout was canceled as dos Anjos pulled out of the fight because of an injury. In addition to the most recent pullout, a fight between Rafael dos Anjos and Islam Makhachev has been in the works twice before. However, their matchup always seems to end up in failure.
Following the news of RDA’s injury, Islam had accused RDA as he called his injury fake. This spouted a verbal battle between the two lightweights. Now Makhachev has instigated the most recent of their Twitter feuds.
In this case, the feud started after Islam poked fun at Rafael’s post. The post features RDA and Conor McGregor getting into a heated argument that led to them being separated by the security. To which the Dagestani fighter replied, ”There was no security around you man”

This tweet led dos Anjos into fury. He quickly fired back by stating, “How many champions have you fought? How many main events? You only getting the hype because of your brother. Get my name out of your dirty mouth Khabib wanna be.”

Further commenting, “Btw you’re lucky because you’re yours manager’s favorite.” Ali Abdelaziz is the manager being referred to here. His management firm Dominance MMA manages Islam, including many other fighters such as Cody Garbrandt, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, and Justin Gaethje.

Will Rafael dos Anjos vs Islam Makhachev ever happen?
Currently, Makhachev, who is on an 8 win streak, will face third-ranked UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush in a UFC Fight Night main event next year. Someone’s winning streak will be snapped as both fighters will look to outdo each other.
As for dos Anjos, his last fight was against Paul Felder back in 2o20. Currently in recovery mode, his next opponent is unknown. The 37-year-old threw names like McGregor in the mix after his tweet.
