Jon Rahm Will be the Second Spaniard to Finish the Year as World No. 1

The 2020-21 PGA Tour season came to an end, with Patrick Cantlay winning the Tour Championship. Moreover, Cantlay also won the PGA Tour player of the year. However, Jon Rahm gave him a tough fight and missed the PGA Tour player of the year by a whisker.

The Spaniard had a hotchpotch year as he had to leave The Memorial event after 54 holes after testing positive. Moreover, he was leading the event with a comfortable margin and was all set to lift the trophy.

However, Rahm made a strong comeback as he won the U.S. Open and clinched his first-ever major championship. Meanwhile, he again had to drop out of the Olympics after testing positive once again.

Hence, even after having these ebbs and flows throughout the year, he managed to keep his consistent performance and became the World no.1 in the OWGR rankings.

Jon Rahm to finish the year as World no.1 in the OWGR rankings

Jon Rahm has had an excellent, consistent year. He is all set to finish the year as world no.1 in the OWGR rankings and will become only the second golfer from Spain to do so. Meanwhile, the legendary Seve Ballesteros was the first Spanish golfer to do in 1988.

Even though Jon Rahm managed to win only one event throughout the year, he was consistent enough to finish most of the time in the top 10s or 20s. Rahm has 15 top 10s in 2021 and has missed the cut only once. But the only unfortunate thing that happened was that Rahm could not win any event apart from the U.S. Open.

But thanks to his excellent performance in 2020 and a consistent display of skills in 2021, he will finish the year as the world no.1 for the first time in his career. Meanwhile, Rahm hasn’t competed on the PGA Tour since the Fortinet Championship in September. And he is all set to return to the Tour after the fall season break.
