Freddie Flintoff was forced to miss out on the first Top Gear trip abroad in a while, after he had to self-isolate.

The former cricketer 43, revealed how ‘gutted’ he was to not join fellow presenters Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris as they travelled to Iceland.

At the very beginning of the show, Paddy told viewers: ‘It’s a very exciting show tonight as we’re doing something we haven’t done in a while.

‘It’s time to dust off the old suitcase and work out what colour passport we need, because we’re off abroad!’

The gang got on a plane to test out the best British cars to take on an expedition, experimenting with vehicles in the tough terrains of Iceland.

However, as the cameras panned across the incredible landscapes, Chris and Paddy were seen without their pal.

‘To be honest, I can’t believe Flintoff’s not here,’ the Take Me Out presenter, 48, said as his co-host agreed: ‘He would love this.

‘Unfortunately, the day before we travelled, Flintoff had been forced to self-isolate so couldn’t join the trip.

‘But while Fred hadn’t made it, his wheels had.’

At the end of the VT, Freddie added: ‘Genuinely I’m gutted I wasn’t there!

Couldnt #TopGear have suspended filming until Freddie came out of isolation, it’s not the same without him 😔

Hearing “Flintoff couldn’t make it” and wondering why I’m still watching 😩 #TopGear

‘Do you know what I’m most gutted about? I didn’t get a chance to drive that Range Rover.’

Typical.

While Freddie wasn’t able to make it on the trip, he was able to get behind the wheel of a brand new Corvette  – which is definitely better than nothing…

Fans were devastated that the athlete couldn’t join in the fun, and flocked to Twitter to discuss the scenes.

‘Hearing “Flintoff couldn’t make it” and wondering why I’m still watching #TopGear,’ an upset viewer penned.

‘I bet Freddie was gutted he missed that trip. I’m gutted he’s not on it aswell. #TopGear [sic],’ a follower agreed.

‘Couldnt #TopGear have suspended filming until Freddie came out of isolation,  it’s not the same without him [sic],’ another questioned.

A Twitter user screamed: ‘Not being funny or anything but WHERE IS FREDDIE? #TopGear.’

They added: ‘#TopGear without Freddie is worse than when S Club 7 became S Club.’

Side note: We’re still not totally over that exit.

Top Gear continues on Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
