WWE Raw results, grades: Seth Rollins fuming as Kevin Owens sneaks into Day 1 title match

Kevin Owens outsmarted Seth Rollins on Raw to earn his way into a WWE Championship match with Big E at Day 1.

On New Year’s Day, the champ will now defend his gold against both Rollins and Owens after the latter defeated him via disqualification in Monday’s main event and thus made the bout a Triple Threat match.

The show kicked off with Rollins dancing his way onto the stage in another ridiculous outfit as he insisted nobody can keep him down before confirming his own title match at Day 1.

The show got off to a hot start as Finn Balor came out and immediately attacked Seth, battering him around the ring until he got hit with a suicide dive.

However, he smacked his rival with the steel steps, and the referee was finally able to get some control to get the match properly underway.

They had a great bout here at a fantastic pace, with Rollins getting the win the the Stomp.

During the night, there was plenty of drama with KO lying to Seth and saying if he beat Big E in the main event, he’d be in their title match on New Year’s Day.

However, WWE official Adam Pearce liked the idea so much that he ended up running with it, so Rollins was at ringside to watch the high stakes match at the end of the show.

The main event was as fantastic as you’d expect, even with a DQ ending – but this was a rare case where a disqualification was the smartest move.

Eventually, Owens goaded Rollins into attacking him, drawing the DQ and winning the match, leaving Seth fuming as his title opportunity at Day 1 is now a Triple Threat.

The Miz returns to interrupt Edge, Liv Morgan and Becky Lynch clash and more

After the opening match, Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan came together to sign the contract for next week’s Raw Women’s Championship match.

The champ was as confident as ever, but the challenger held her own, mocking her rival for crying after she beat Charlotte Flair at Survivor Series – although having her reference this year’s releases in her promo was a poor decision.

In the end, Sonya Deville stopped things from descending into a brawl, and The Man revealed they would meet later in the show as captains of their own five-woman teams.

That 10-woman tag match – which was a lot of fun – took place just before the main event, with Team Liv (featuring Dana Brooke, Bianca Belair, Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H.) defeating Lynch’s squad of herself, Carmella, Queen Zelina, Doudrop and Tamina.

They got plenty of time and covered a few different feuds – this was a success.

Elsewhere, RK-Bro defended their Raw Tag Team Titles against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in a very entertaining clash.

Randy Orton wasn’t having any of it when Riddle tried to give him a blonde wig to wear, but they still put on a great united front to keep the good times rolling.

The Miz and Maryse spoiled Edge’s big return with a comeback of their own (Picture: WWE)

Edge made his latest return and looked to move on to new opponents, with The Miz and Maryse coming out to interrupt him, the A-Lister clearly annoyed at a lack of fanfare surrounding his own comeback.

There were references to his stint on Dancing With The Stars, while Edge also gave a nod to CM Punk and MJF’s promo on AEW Dynamite, as well as another comment about recent releases – this time at John Morrison’s expense.

In the end, Miz refused to fight Edge and walked away – this was overall a great way to get this feud started.

The Street Profits beat Alpha Academy in a fun sprint with some bizarre extra-curricular stuff with AJ Styles pretending to be blind after last week’s fire extinguisher attack (which Omos didn’t seem impressed by).

The United States Title was also on the line as Damian Priest beat Apollo Crews in a good match, although it was mainly here to simply showcase the champ.

Finally, another tag team bout saw Rey and Dominik Mysterio bounce back after their handicap match with Bobby Lashley as they beat the Hurt Business duo Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin.

*WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
