The Crown looks set to spark fresh controversy with the Royal family after the BBC allowed Netflix to film a new scene at Broadcasting House.

It comes after Prince William was allegedly ‘frustrated’ after it was reported that Princess Diana’s interview with Martin Bashir will be featured in the hit drama series.

It’s thought that a dramatisation of the bombshell interview will appear in season five of the Netflix show.

Now, BBC bosses have let the streaming platform use Broadcasting House to recreate a real-life scene in the run-up to the 1995 interview, The Sun reports.

New pictures have been revealed showing Richard Cordery, 71, playing Marmaduke Hussey who was Chairman of the BBC’s board of governors.

A TV source said: ‘It’s unbelievable that in the middle of a major fight with William and the Royal Family over its documentary, the BBC would allow Netflix to film on their property.

‘The BBC and Netflix are joining forces to do the one thing William doesn’t want — dramatising the Panorama interview which is a part of his life he has said he does not wish to revisit.’

It was ruled this year that Bashir used ‘deceitful methods’ to secure the interview with Diana, with Prince William issuing a statement saying that it ‘should never air again’.

After the recent reports about The Crown, a royal source told The Telegraph: ‘His words still stand.’

An official inquiry this year concluded that Bashir commissioned fake bank statements and used ‘deceitful behaviour’ in a ‘serious breach’ of the BBC’s producer guidelines to secure his bombshell interview with the Royal.

In the inquiry, he was criticised by Lord Dyson, who was appointed to look into the circumstances surrounding the infamous chat.

There is already tension between the BBC and the Royal family after the new documentary series The Princes and The Press attracted criticism.

The three main royal households hit out at the programme for airing ‘overblown and unfounded claims’.

The Crown is available to stream on Netflix.
