However tough and ruthless Charles Oliveira is inside the octagon, the Brazilian is that much of a caring and kind person on the outside. Oliveira is hands down one of the best if not the best fighter in the lightweight division. The fact that he is currently the UFC lightweight champion only adds to the argument.

“Do Bronx” has fought his way up to the top with pure grit. In the process, he has also beaten many of the best fighters in the promotion. Charles has overcome UFC icons such as Tony Ferguson, Kevin Lee, and Jim Miller. In his last fight, Oliveira annihilated Michael Chandler to win the vacant UFC lightweight championship.

Charles Oliveira is currently in the best form of his life. It’s safe to say that he is currently in his prime, looking at the way he has been fighting. Oliveira is currently unstoppable. The fighter has won nine consecutive bouts. As of November 2021, Oliveria’s professional fight record stands at 31 wins and 8 losses.

In 2008, he made his MMA debut. Oliveira primarily competed in local Brazilian promotions before joining the UFC in 2010. His first UFC bout was against Darren Elkins in 2010, which he won in 40 seconds of round one.

Charles Oliveira’s Early Beginnings

Charles Oliveira’s ethnicity is Brazilian. He came from a very humble beginning and was born into a poor family. ‘Do Bronx’ didn’t have much money while growing up in the neighborhood of Guaruja, Sao Paulo, Brazil. He used to work for Brazil’s workforce and help his mom sell cheese salads to earn his daily bread.

He started learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu through contact with his uncle. Oliveira couldn’t afford the training fee, so his uncle cut him somewhat of a scholarship deal with the trainer. Oliveira was given the moniker ‘Do Bronx,’ which translates to ‘from the Bronx.’ The Bronx is a slang term for favelas in Brazil, which also means slum.

What’s next for Charles Oliveira?

After delivering consistently outstanding performances, Charles earned himself the UFC gold. After reaching the summit, he needs to maintain his spot and will have to overcome Dustin Poirier at UFC 269.

UFC 269 will be held on the 11th of December at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A win in this fight would cap off an amazing run for the champion and will increase his winning streak to 10. If he wins against Dustin Poirier, it is inevitable that his ranking in the UFC Men’s pound for pound category will go up. He currently stands eighth on the list.
